The Vernon Building Society calendar competition has given members of the public and photographers alike the opportunity to feature their own photos in a high quality Stockport themed calendar.
12 photos have been chosen for each month of the year, and the front page winner was John Varley, who presented a stunning picture of the Reddish Vale Viaduct. The calendars are currently on sale in each of the Vernon’s six branches for a suggested donation of £5. This year the Society has decided to donate all the proceeds from the calendar sales to a Community Awards finalist selected by competition winner John Varley.
John has chosen Signpost Stockport for Carers to receive the funding.
John said:
‘Thank you for this opportunity to pick the charity from your list , after looking through them I could find plenty of reasons to choose any of them to receive the money raised from the calendar sales . But after careful consideration I decided to choose Signpost , my wife and daughter have both been carers and I have seen firsthand how this can affect the lives of both the carers and the cared for, once again thank you for this opportunity’
Previously the Vernon has allocated the money to the Community Awards fund, but this time they have decided the money should be donated in addition to the £10,000 donated annually.
Vernon’s Marketing Manager Alex Deakin said
‘This year’s calendar was an absolute success. The calendar is a premium product that will provide well deserved funds for Signpost Stockport for Carers. Giving John the opportunity to choose which charity benefits fits with our ethos of giving the local community a big say in how our community funds are allocated.”
