The latest employment market statistics show that in the three months to February unemployment fell by 7,000 across the North West, but there was an increase in the number of people that are classified as economically inactive.
However, the more recent Jobseeker’s Allowance data for March shows that the claimant count across Greater Manchester fell by 1,161 to 85,466.
Commenting on the figures released today, Dr Brian Sloan, Chief Economist at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, pictured above said:
“There are some mixed messages in the figures released today and overall the increase in unemployment nationally must be viewed as especially disappointing”.
