Schools Minister David Laws has announced that the next phase of the Priority Schools Building Programme, a £2bn government scheme to rebuild those schools across the country suffering most from wear and tear, includes two local primary schools.
Both Cheadle Primary School on Ashfield Road and Great Moor Junior School on Southwood Road in Stockport have been awarded funding of over £2m to partly rebuiltd and refurbish the schools.
All schools included in the programme are now able to start developing detailed plans, and work is expected to start next year and be completed in 2017.

Local Cheadle MP Mark Hunter said:
“This announcement is fantastic news for pupils, parents and teachers of both Cheadle Primary and Great Moor Junior schools.
“Both Cheadle Primary School and Great Moor Junior School urgently required more financial help and I am delighted that this has now been confirmed by the Coalition Government. This money, that has been fought for and delivered by Liberal Democrats in government, will make a real difference.
“I’d like to thank all those who helped us campaign on this issue. Making sure all children in Cheadle constituency get a fair start in life should always be a top priority, and I can’t wait to see both schools’ plans develop.”
Schools Minister David Laws MP said:
“I am delighted to be able to announce money that will allow Cheadle Primary and Great Moor Junior schools to make badly needed improvements to their buildings. Mark has run a fantastic campaign on behalf of local parents and children, making a very clear case as to why these schools need this money.
“School buildings that aren’t up to scratch unfairly hold our children and young people back. Every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their full potential, and improving Cheadle Primary and Great Moor Junior will make sure that many more children in Cheadle constituency receive a good education.”
