Stockport based Trolex are supporting local charity Transport For Sick Children, a unique volunteer driver scheme, to help children with a health need living in Greater Manchester, gain access to essential health care, which they would otherwise struggle to get to without a means of transport.
A group of employees at Trolex have offered their time to volunteer for the charity and are now all registered volunteer drivers. Participation in the scheme officially starts on the 15th April 2019 when a Trolex volunteer will be taking their first child and carer to their appointment.
By using their own cars, volunteers help by collecting a child with their carer from home and driving them to their appointments at various medical locations. When the appointment or treatment is finished, the volunteer then takes the child and their carer back home. It’s as simple as that.
Last month, Transport for Sick Children – TFSC – volunteer drivers undertook 419 trips, covering 9,405 miles. This helped 210 children to attend much needed medical appointments.
