A popular Robinsons pub, The Hare and Hounds in Mill Brow, Marple Bridge, celebrated VE weekend in style with a series of live performances and a family fun day that transported attendees back 70 years, kicking the weeked off in style with an encore-inducing performance from ‘The Vintage Vocalist’ playing a mixture of wartime and early 20th century classics that had locals dancing into the night.
The following day was highlighted by Eric Knussen ringing the church bell to start a 70 minute celebration peal; significant as Eric originally rang the bells at the same Mellor church when victory was declared back in 1945.
The weekend was rounded off with traditional street games, tug of wars, a delicious hog roast and cake stalls. Whilst 70 years may have passed, the community spirit of the country remains alive and well.
