During January 2014, MAN Diesel and Turbo UK Ltd (MDT-UK) hosted staff and pupils from Stockport’s SK1 Technical School at their UK Headquarters in Hazel Grove.
The School is a pioneering venture for 14-19 year olds who have a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and an ambition to be successful in their future careers. It is the first school of its kind in the country and openedits doors in September 2013.
The purpose of the visit to MDT-UK was to gain an overall view of the Company, tour the facilities in Hazel Grove – including the prestigious PrimeServ Academy, one of only 13 in the world – and to be made aware of the Company’s current Apprenticeship scheme and its benefits.
During a presentation from Senior Vice President Wayne Jones, who is also Chair of the School Directors, the students were given the opportunity to ask questions directly and gain further knowledge of the Company’s services and products and rewarding career prospects in Engineering.
MDT-UK currently has two apprentices working in Hazel Grove with a further four apprentices across its UK sites and will significantly grow this number in the future.
A further visit of students and staff will take place in February 2014.
The school in Stockport is the first technical school in the country and is pioneering a fresh approach to learning with a firm focus on “education to prepare you to earn a living”. The school enrolled 100 students and is full for the first year.
