Launched just over 6 months ago, Stockport’s first Business Football League is looking for teams to join an already impressive list of local businesses.
The league’s aim is provide football for those who may not be able to access it at the weekend and ensure that all games fit around the busy work schedule of people. The pilot league was started by Adam Doyle, Adult & Youth Development Officer at Cheshire County Football Association and has attracted teams from
- Starkey
- Adidas
- AA
- Lex Autolease
- CDL
- CGA
Adam is keen to increase the number of teams:
“The league has been running on a Monday night (Woodley 8pm) or Tuesday night at Stockport Academy (Tuesday 6pm) with weekly fixtures and I am keen attract more businesses to join in.
The commitment is reduced as each team should only play a fixture once every 3 weeks. The league runs on a 3G AstroTurf facility to ensure that games are never cancelled and played on a very good pitch. All games have FA qualified referees and the ethos behind the league is about providing the opportunity to play not winning trophies.
“However we have had a competitive season this year with a league trophy going down to the final game and the cup being won by Lex Auto Lease (picture attached). All the league standings can be found online at http://full-time.thefa.com/Index.do?league=409982883
“We are not having a winter break yet we have a facility to play friendlies for new teams wanting to enter to get used to the format.”
