Stockport Council has been supporting Foster Care Fortnight by encouraging residents to consider becoming a foster carer.
A special event to encourage people to learn about becoming a foster carer was held at Handforth Dean Shopping Centre with local foster carers talking to people about their experiences of fostering.
At the event people interested in becoming a foster carer were also able to find out more information from the Council’s Fostering team.
Councillor Wendy Meikle, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Children and Young People, said:
“The Council is committed to recruiting more foster carers for children of all ages. I would encourage anyone who is interested in becoming a foster carer to contact the Council’s Fostering team for more information.”
The Council has recently launched a new specialist scheme which provides supportive placements to children with additional needs. The Council holds monthly open evenings in Reddish for people interested in the different types of fostering schemes.
The fostering team will also be at Marple Festival, Four Heatons and Heald Green Festivals on 15th, 16th and 29th June to speak to local residents about fostering.
