Stockport Council hosted its first Employer Breakfast Meeting giving employers the chance to learn more about recruiting apprentices.
The event was run by the Council’s 14-19 Services in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and was held on 18th March at the Apprenticeships Store (Units 4-6 Grand Central SK1 3TA).
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said:
“This was a really successful event and a great opportunity for employers to hear about the funding options available to support them with potential recruitment. One of the main focuses of the event was for employers to learn more about the 50:50 Apprenticeship scheme and how it could benefit their business.”

The 50:50 Apprenticeship scheme is based on the Council giving up to 50 Apprenticeship grants of £1,000 to employers who take on 16, 17 or 18 year old Stockport residents who are not in employment, education or training.
The meeting also covered:
- The Youth Contract Scheme
- Jobs with Training Grants.
The event attracted 25 attendees including representatives from:
- Stockport NHS Foundation Trust
- Hughes Safety Showers
- Taylors Fish & Chips
- Capita Travel & Events
- Revive Dental Care
- Ascot International
- Tameside College
- Blue Training
Attendees provided a range of positive feedback after the event commenting ‘this was an informative event that met all my objectives’ and ‘I was given solid information and advice.’
