The popular monthly Vintage Village Fair held at Stockport Council’s Covered Market Hall, has won a prestigious national award.
Pretty Nostalgic magazine held a public online poll last month to discover the nation’s best markets and The Vintage Village gained the most votes to win the title of Britain’s Best Vintage and Antique Market.
From its start in September 2010 as the first event to be held on a Sunday at the Council’s Covered Market Hall, The Vintage Village is now established as firm favourite with vintage shoppers from across the Northwest and beyond.
The events are run in partnership with the Council and last year it won the accolade of Best Vintage Fair in Greater Manchester in the VintageManchester.com Best of 2012 Awards.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “The Vintage Village events, along with the other Sunday markets have been extremely successful and are helping transform the heart of Stockport. The popular Sunday markets have led to increased footfall for all surrounding businesses. I would like to congratulate everybody involved in the Vintage Village events on this much deserved award.”
Alan Lowe of The Vintage Village said:
“We had no idea we were on the shortlist of
nominees until we were alerted by Pretty
Nostalgic magazine, and discovered that we
were up against some very stiff competition,
including the famous Alfie’s Antiques Market
in London.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support
shown by our visitors and stall holders who
voted and won this award for us. It’s wonderful
to gain national recognition for our fair, and
this shows the potential of specialist events
such as ours to draw attention to Stockport.”
The Vintage Village is held on the second
Sunday of every month throughout the year at
Stockport Council’s Covered Market Hall,
SK1 1EU.
The next Vintage Village fair is on Sunday
10th March, from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
