Over 500 two year olds from Stockport will be able to benefit from free early years education this year, rising to 1,400 two year olds in 2014, thanks to extra cash from the Government.
Commenting, Andrew Stunell, MP for Hazel Grove, said:
“This is brilliant news for Stockport mums and children. Early education helps promote a child’s physical, emotional and social development”.
Andrew also went on to say that the extra support for low income working families will help give young children a flying start in life.
According to the MP, next year the Government will be investing £760m to help an additional 130,000 two-year-olds in working families on less than £16,190 a year who get working tax credits.
This year they are investing in childcare and new places to make sure all eligible children benefit straight away.
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg added:
“From now on, if you’re a parent on a low income with a two year old in the family your child will qualify for 15 hours a week of free early years’ education. These funded places are focused on helping the families that need them most.”
