Stockport’s top motorsport team Hughes/Speedworks Motorsport, from Bredbury, are about to embark on the next round of the FIA 24H Series (powered by Hankook) Championship at Mugello in Italy on the 13-14 March.

75 cars are currently entered for the second of the six race calendar in the series for GTs, Touring Cars and 24H Specials in what will be the Mugello’s second running of the event.
Hughes/Speedworks have named former BTCC racer & Hughes Safety Showers boss Tony Hughes, Historic racer & Warburtons Bakery Director Ross Warburton, and recently announced Ginetta GT4 Supercup and former BTCC racer Ollie Jackson from the line-up that had their second taste of podium success at the 24H Dubai in January. The team will again pilot their Ginetta G50 in the SP3 Class of the Series.
The beautiful Tuscan venue, known for hosting the Italian round of the MotoGP Championship, hosts a 12-hour race format with a difference. The race, like last year, will be split into two parts. The start will take place at 13.30CET on Friday 13th and continue until 17.30CET when the chequered flag will be displayed and the cars will be brought into ‘Parc Ferme’ conditions [where no team may work on the cars] overnight. The race will then restart at 09.30CET on Saturday 14th and run right through until 17.30CET where the final chequered flag will fly, bringing the 12H Mugello to a close.
Hughes Safety Shower boss Tony (far left) said:
“I can’t wait to get back in the ‘saddle’ again; it seems like forever since we were behind the wheel in Dubai, even though the car hasn’t been back long.
“Speedworks do a great job prepping the cars and despite the short turnaround, the car will be ‘as-good-as-new’ to hopefully make up for missing out on the podium there last year.
“Myself and Ross know the circuit well, and Ollie will get up to speed quickly with his experience. I’d like to think we have a good chance”.
The team received the Ginetta, along with the ‘sister’ Aston Martin of John Gilbert less than two weeks ago, so have their work cut out to get both cars ready for their trip to Lo Stivale.
