Join in Stockport’s Great Get Together and hold street parties in Stockport!
As part of the “Great Get Together”, an event fronted by the Jo Cox Foundation, Stockport Council want people to come together for street parties, picnics, and barbeques the weekend of June 16-18.
The weekend marks the first anniversary of the tragic death of Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox on June 16 last year.
However, the Jo Cox foundation in partnership with the Big Lunch and a range of organisations are determined to make the anniversary a positive fixture, where neighbours from all backgrounds to get together, share food, build bridges and make new friends.
A range of organisations are playing their part in the Great Get Together, from well-known charities such as Oxfam and the NPCC, and RSPB – to church groups and organisations such as the Premier League.

Residents who are holding a street party will need to apply for permission by 24th May from the Council at www.stockport.gov.uk/streetparties, where they can apply for a temporary road closure at no charge.
The Council will try to accommodate all requests and applications can be processed up to 3 weeks before the actual event.
Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Economy & Regeneration, Cllr Kate Butler said:
“I am pleased to see so many organisations helping to bring people together and make a positive event everyone can feel a part of. June the 16th will always remain a significant date for those of us who knew Jo or shared her values of public service.
It would be great to see events and groups in Stockport getting together to bridge divisions in this way, reflecting the positive example Jo brought to public life.
I look forward visiting events in Stockport, hope the weather reflects the bright sentiment of the day and wish each get together every success.”
