Stockport’s first Italian Craft and Food Fair takes place at Stockport Market over the weekend of June 1st-2nd.
In cooperation with the Stockport Book & Record Fair and supported by Stockport Council, it has been organised by Chiara Pedrazzi, an events planner from Mantova in North West Italy. The event is dedicated to Italian food, including authentic pizzas, pasta, ice creams and craft beers and ‘upcycling’ – the artistic way of recycling.
This new and unique initiative will enable artists from Mantova and other parts of northern Italy to display their art and culture in Stockport. Artists include Giacomo, who presents paper-mache pieces of art; Denise with her jewellery made with stones; Lorena’s creations made from tyres and Giulia and Ketty with handmade designs from paper.
Eleonora, a chef and language teacher, is bringing her baskets made from recycled newspapers. The artists will exhibit and sell their work on both days.
A range of activities take place on Sunday, which is also the Festival of the Italian Republic. These include: 10am: Upcycling Demonstration by Giacomo 11am: Italian Quiz with Eleonora 2 pm: Pasta making competition – the winner will enjoy a free meal for two at nearby Da Vincis on St Petersgate. 3 pm: How to make a necklace from a tyre with Lorena There will also be sewing workshops, traditional recipes and cultural activities. Chiara Pedrazzi said: “The idea for the craft and food fair came to me while visiting one of the many events organised at Stockport Market.
I’m aware that Stockport is a place which is always ready to embrace new cultures and new ideas.” There is more information on http://www.stockport.gov.uk/events/italiancraftandfoodfair
