Stockport Town Hall will be glowing blue this evening, 5th July, in celebration of the NHS 70th Birthday.
Across the country scores of civic buildings will be lit up in blue in celebration.
Councillor Tom McGee, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Health said:
“Greater Manchester was the birth place of the NHS and we are proud to mark this momentous occasion by lighting up our iconic Town Hall blue.
On behalf of Stockport Council, I’d like to thank the extraordinary local NHS staff in Stockport who are there to guide, support and care for all of us, day in, day out.”
We should not forget that this year is also the 70th anniversary of the founding of the social care system. By integrating health and social care services we can ensure that the NHS continues to serve our communities free at the point of use.”
The public are encouraged to share pictures of the Town Hall lit up in blue on social media using the hashtag #NHS70 #LightUpBlue
The public are also encouraged to make their own gift to the NHS by becoming blood donors as stocks of blood are low at present.
