The event, organised by Stockport Council, offered those active in the development sector a chance to hear first-hand how significant regeneration schemes in Stockport are progressing and the Council’s continued ambitious plans for the future.
Attendees heard how the last two years have seen significant progress in delivering Stockport Council’s ambitious plans for the borough.
The first phase of development at Stockport Exchange has been completed, with a 1,000 space multi-storey car park now open to the public and work on the second phase which includes a new 115 bed hotel and 5 storey office building due to start on site later this year. Bridgefield, a major leisure development between Merseyway Shopping Centre and the M60, is progressing well and various housing schemes across the borough are coming to fruition.
Cllr Patrick McAuley, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council said,
“Stockport is one of the most successful local economies in the North West, and the Council wants to build on that with ambitious plans to develop the Town Centre.
“We, along with our partners, have made significant progress on a number of schemes that when realised will boost the economy, create jobs and regenerate the borough.”
Stockport Council officially re-launched the second edition of its ‘Town Centre Development Prospectus’ at the event, which sets out its plans to deliver regeneration in the town centre and the opportunities for developers.
