Stockport’s Starkey Hearing Technologies are reaching out into the community to educate about their industry.
This week the Hazel Grove based company welcomed a group of youngsters from Great Moor School who spent the morning with the Starkey team. As well as learning about the intricacies of the ear and how we are naturally equipped to hear, they also had the opportunity to visit the manufacturing unit to see how a hearing aid is designed and produced.

Speaking on behalf of Starkey, Sales & Marketing Director Neil Pottinger commented:
“As part of our strategy to integrate with our local community we invited the children to visit Starkey so that from an early age they can understand why it is important to protect their ability to hear. We even held a “loudest shout competition” won by Lola with a shout of 109 decibels!
“They all had a turn at designing a poster to promote hearing health – all in all, very pleasant experience for us to talk to such interested kids and I am fairly sure that they all had a good time”.
One in seven adults in the UK suffer from some form of hearing loss and Starkey are working hard to educate so that any deterioration is recognised and acted upon sooner rather than later, to help to reduce further decline.
