The Mayor of Stockport’s chosen charity this year is Beacon Counselling, a mental health service, who need urgent support through the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Mayor has chosen Beacon Counselling – a local charity based on Middle Hillgate who support people suffering from mental and emotional distress – as the Mayoral charity for the year. The charity will benefit from the fundraising during Councillor Fitzpatrick’s year in office.
Cllr Dean Fitzpatrick, Mayor of Stockport, said:
We are living in extraordinary times, 2020 and the effects of Covid-19, has brought upheaval and uncertainty to all of our lives. We cannot predict what the world will look like in a years’ time but if we are to come through this then we must act together.
“We know that mental health problems are indiscriminate, that they can affect anyone of us at any time. A lot of people are understandably struggling right now and through no fault of their own. There has never been a more important time to focus on mental health and the devastating effects it can have on all of our lives if we just do nothing.
“With a little help and support during this most difficult of times, every single one of us can live happier and more fulfilling lives. That is why I am proud to be supporting Beacon Counselling, and the amazing work they do promoting positive mental health for the people of Stockport.”
James Harper, CEO at Beacon Counselling, said:
As a country, we are facing an unprecedented challenge to mental health, and whatever the future the pandemic holds, we know that more people are experiencing poor mental health. This is a normal response to extraordinary circumstances and it is normal to need extra support at times.
“Beacon’s mission to improve mental health, well-being, and resilience has never been more important and we are here for you now. Our support for everyone, from children and young people through to young and older adults is available and proven to work. To continue being part of the answer to this pandemic we need your support, so please donate if you can.
“If you or someone close to you is struggling, then please contact us.”
