In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week 2025, Stockport is hosting a series of events to spotlight the role of community in supporting mental health.
This year’s theme encourages reflection on how communities can offer connection, support, and belonging—essential elements for positive mental wellbeing.
During the week, Stockport will be raising awareness of the WorkWell scheme, which offers free support for residents with physical or mental health issues affecting their employment. For anyone struggling with their Mental Health and getting back into employment, the WorkWell scheme gives access to:
- Help and support from a dedicated Work and Health Coach
- A personal assessment to understand the best support for your needs
- Tailored plans to address your physical and mental wellbeing
- Access to local health, wellbeing, and community, support services and activities
- Careers advice and guidance to help you progress in your current job or explore new opportunities
To check eligibility for either yourself or an employee for the WorkWell scheme or to find out more information, email Stockport Council’s Work and Skills Team or visit the Stockport Council website.
Other events taking place in the borough during Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 include a two-day Mental Health Community Fair, organised by Stockport’s Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) Mental Health Network.
The event, taking place in the Merseyway Shopping Centre outside Specsavers on 12th and 13th May from 10am to 2pm, will provide valuable resources, information, and opportunities for local residents to engage in open conversations about mental health and community support.
These events will offer a welcoming space for those seeking support, as well as anyone wanting to learn more about mental health and the power of community. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with support professionals, access local mental health resources, and take part in engaging activities designed to raise awareness and foster positive wellbeing.
A short video also highlights wellbeing groups run by Life Leisure, Stockport County Community Trust and other organisations that inspire community connection in the borough.
Cllr Keith Holloway, Stockport Council Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said:
“In Stockport, we understand the value of connection, and we are proud to support a wide range of organisations that provide safe spaces and essential support for those with mental health needs. By working together, we can ensure that everyone has access to the resources and care they need to maintain positive mental well-being and feel empowered within our community.”
