Stockport Local Fund is being launched by Stockport Council to give up to £1m to local communities after the significant boost to funding was agreed in order to improve the lives of communities across the borough.
It now means that the Stockport Local Fund will be formally launched at an event later this Spring, where groups will be asked to help design how the money is allocated.
Updates on funding opportunities will be provided through Stockport Local, the Borough’s online community directory. You can register your organisation and make sure you are kept up to date at www.stockport.gov.uk/stockport-local-fund to register you organisation.
Councillor David Sedgwick, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Reform and Governance, said:
With this commitment of £1m we hope to invest in activity that can support our communities to become more sustainable. I would encourage all local community groups and organisations to register on Stockport Local so they can keep up to date with the fund and find out how to get involved as it develops.
“This is a big moment for communities across the borough and we’re really excited for its launch and to see the innovative and creative ideas brought forward.”
The £1m announcement comes after initial investments of £25k (in total) were made to 13 groups including Stockport County, Walthew House, Reddish Tea Dance and Signpost for Carers.
Julia Hewer, of Signpost for Carers, a local registered charity providing support and information for unpaid carers in Stockport, said:
We’re really excited to be a part of this exciting new fund in Stockport and the funding we have received will really make a difference to unpaid carers living in the borough.
“The funding has also enabled us to create the ‘Connecting Carers card’, which act as a discount card for unpaid carers to use with local businesses in Stockport.”
