To celebrate The Queen’s 90th Birthday, Stockport Council will light a beacon as part of the national Beacon Lighting Ceremony on the evening of the 21st April, 2016.
The ceremony will take place at St Mary’s Church, Churchgate, Stockport, SK1 1YG from 8pm to 9.30pm, with the gas-fuelled beacon being lit at 8.30pm.
The Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Andrew Verdeille, and the Mayoress, Mrs Cleo Cundall, will be in attendance.
Please note the following road closures will be in place between 7.45pm to 9.30pm:
*Millgate, Stockport Central – From the junction with Shawcross Fold to the junction with the Market Place.
*Churchgate, Stockport Central – From the junction with Market Street to the junction with Harvey Street.
There is a long and unbroken tradition of celebrating Royal jubilees, weddings, coronations and special birthdays with the lighting of beacons.
