Three children from across Stockport have had their artwork of notable landmarks in the town recreated as bespoke Lego models by clients of local charity, Pure Innovations.
The artwork was created as part of a summer competition, organised by Stockport SHAPES Alliance, One Stockport and Pure Innovations’ Pure Brick Studio. Children were challenged to walk around 10 iconic landmarks across Stockport and draw the site most meaningful to them. The Pure Bricks Studio team replicated all 10 landmarks in Lego, which were displayed at each site during the challenge.
The winners – Maja Lantanska from St Bernadette’s, drew a picture of St Bernadette’s Parish Church, Seb Connell from Broadstone Hall sketched a picture of Redrock and Joseph Bradbury from St Mary’s Marple Bridge, depicted the Marple viaduct, all architectural gems in their local area.
The winners were presented with their prizes, bespoke Lego models of their sketch and YouTube videos on how to build it by the Mayor of Stockport, Cllr Adrian Nottingham, at an awards ceremony in the town Hall.
Mayor of Stockport, Cllr Adrian Nottingham, said:
“It was a pleasure to award the prizes to such talented artists. It is great to see Stockport and its heritage celebrated in such a unique way by all the partners involved and, more importantly, by the next generation.”
Cllr Jude Wells, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Health, added:
This competition encouraged children to get active and creative in an enjoyable way. The judges from Pure Innovation were amazed at the standard of entries, well done to everyone who took part and to the worthy winners.”
Pure Brick Studio is a creative space for clients with a learning disability or autism. With Pure Innovations’ Community Support Worker, Chris Smith, clients worked wonders constructing the 10 landmark miniatures, which are now on tour across several Primary Schools. Hundreds of children will enjoy the work that went into creating the underground Air Raid Shelters, the glass elegance of Market Hall, the stylish Art Deco design in the Stockport Plaza and the minute detail of the Town Hall.
