Stockport is the town of choice for young city couples according to the Vernon Building Society’s research that reveals that the number of 30-45 year olds in Stockport is increasing while Manchester and Liverpool have seen a decline over the same period.
The latest data from the Office of National Statistics explores internal migration for the year up to June 2013, a period which saw over 1,146 30-45 year olds move from Manchester to Stockport – representing a 6.5% increase year-on-year.
Mike Hanson, Chief Executive of Vernon Building Society, said:
“Stockport is proving ever more attractive to young families and couples. 2011 census data shows the proportion of families in Stockport remains above the North West and national average, as young city couples seek the quality of life, transport links and job opportunities that Stockport has to offer”.
The trend may be continued following recent announcements of an approved £45m retail and leisure development at Bridgefield and a £10m employment development scheme in Cheadle Heath. “Bolstered investment in quality of life initiatives and employment space will see Stockport become increasingly desirable from both a residential and commercial perspective” says Mike.
