Stockport Homes Group and local award-winning choir The Laurence Singers joined forces to hold a charity concert in aid of Reuben’s Retreat at St. Mary’s Church in the Marketplace. Over 120 people attended, including Stockport Homes staff, board members and the local community, raising over £2,000.
Reuben’s Retreat is a charity that was born in memory of Reuben Michael Graham who tragically passed away aged 23 months. The charity’s goal is to provide a retreat in the North West of England countryside that will relieve the distress of families and their close friends who have suffered the bereavement of a child or have a child suffering from a life limiting or life threatening illness.
Robin Burman, Chair of Stockport Homes Group’s Board, first met Reuben’s mummy Nicola when he attended a presentation she gave about the project at a rehearsal of The Laurence Singers, of which Robin’s wife is a member. When Reuben’s Retreat was announced as Stockport Homes Group’s Charity of the Year, he saw the perfect opportunity for a fundraising partnership event.
The Laurence Singers are a mixed choir of around thirty singers, based in South Manchester. During the concert they sang a broad repertoire of music, including classical, pop and show tunes.
Reuben’s family, including mummy Nicola, daddy Mike and big brother Isaac attended the concert, with Nicola speaking to the audience in the interval.
Nicola said,
“It was a magnificent, magical and musical night full of song and sweet souls. All gifting their time and talent to support our beautiful cause and families in need. We promise to spend and invest every penny wisely. Forever grateful to The Laurence Singers for being part of #reubensjourney”
