Following the collapse of one of the UK’s most established brands, administrators Deloitte have confirmed that Stockport’s Merseyway store is among the latest round of 37 HMV stores announced for closure.
HMV in Stockport is expected to close by the end of March bringing the total of 113 HMV closures since the company admitted it was no longer able to trade.
It is hoped that by closing nearly half of the stores, the longer term prospects are more positive enhancing the likelihood of the remaining stores being sold as a going concern.
10 days ago retail chain Republic Group called in administrators and, while 150 redundancies have already taken place at the Leeds based head office, 121 stores are waiting to find out their fate, as a new buyer is sought. A further announcement is expected early next week.
