A UK retail giant have announced they will be opening a new store at Stockport Exchange.
Sainsbury’s have signed a deal to lease the first commercial unit in the town’s new office district.
The new 4,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s Local store will be located opposite Stockport train station in the ground floor of a new 50,000 sq ft office building.
Opening in November 2016 the Sainsbury’s Local will create at least 20 new jobs locally and provide an excellent facility including for local employees, hotel visitors and commuters.
As well as the office, this stage of development at Stockport Exchange will bring a new 115-bed Holiday Inn Express and public space outside the station to the town centre, creating an attractive and thriving gateway to the town centre.
Working in partnership with national developer, Muse Developments, the development of Stockport Exchange is being undertaken as part of Stockport Council’s Investing in Growth work. The £1 billion investment programme is transforming Stockport, building on the town’s many strengths and creating new jobs and opportunities for many.
Cllr Kate Butler, Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council said “I’m delighted to welcome Sainsbury’s to Stockport Exchange. Having them opening as part of the development is great news, and the store will be a fantastic addition to the scheme as well as our town centre.
“It is amazing to see how work at Stockport Exchange is pressing ahead and how this area of our town centre is being transformed.”

Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE are appointed as joint agents for the scheme.
