The Employer of the Year Award recognises a business in Stockport that has gone the extra mile to create a stimulating and supportive workplace with well-motivated, well-trained and ambitious staff.
The shortlisted companies in this category, which is backed by Stockport College, are; Jobwise, Rowlinson Knitwear and Trolex.
Jobwise is a leading recruitment agency with a huge focus on employee satisfaction. Its ‘love your job’ ethos is evident in all of its core values. It offers a fantastic benefits package to staff which includes a birthday day off, a profit share scheme, enhanced maternity pay and an extra special ten year anniversary celebration. It offers training and development to all employees, and plenty of scope for job progression, which is reflected in its high staff retention, with the average period of employment at the firm being 10 years. Leanne Goodwin says that her own progression from office junior to Managing Director gave her a deep knowledge of all the roles within the business and taught her that developing staff works best for her business.
Rowlinson Knitwear has been in business, and in Stockport, for 78 years and has learned that business is about much for than just numbers, profit and cash. They believe their business is about the people that work for them and on their behalf at suppliers around the world and their commitment to these people is clear. They have created a culture amongst staff of care and trust. Rowlinsons aim is to be a great employer and have everyone proud to work with them.

Established in 1958, Trolex offers bespoke safety and condition monitoring solutions as well as control systems for mines, tunnels and other high risk industries. It also holds social and wellbeing activities, which the majority of staff regularly take part in.
