Stockport Council is hosting an employer engagement event entitled “Fighting the Fog” on Tuesday, March 15, from 9am-12pm at the Apprenticeships Store in the town centre.
The event will be attended by a range of different employers, who will find out:
- how apprenticeships can be for new employees aged 16+ and for existing members of your workforce;
- how there will be an apprenticeship levy on some employers through PAYE from April 1, 2017;
- how GCSE’s will soon by graded in numbers 1-9 instead of letters;
- how they can provide help to local school and college students.
Employers will also receive information about:
- PEEBS – Stockport Council’s free online employment brokerage service;
- Stockport Council’s Working with Young People award;
- Stockport’s Apprenticeships Store;
- wage incentives available to employers hiring apprentices.

Event for young people
Stockport Council is also hosting an information event about apprenticeships and the potential progression routes available.
The event is being held at the Apprenticeships Store on Tuesday, March 15, from 4pm to 8pm for parents/carers/guardians of young people in years 10, 11, 12 and 13.
Young people are also encouraged to attend and meet face-to-face with staff from the Apprenticeships Store to discuss in detail Apprenticeships available.
