Stockport Council has taken on more than 20 young people on a variety of work experience and internships since May this year.
The roles have been across a range of departments, from public health and schools sport partnership, to finance and democratic services.
The council’s Participation and Education Service is involved with co-ordinating work experience and internships across the council in partnership with the three local colleges – Aquinas, Cheadle & Marple and Stockport.
Applicants are also able to register on the People Education Employers Brokerage Service (PEEBS) and many have secured placements via this registration.
Councillor Dean Fitzpatrick, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Education, said: “Stockport Council recognises the importance of supporting our local communities by offering our young people the opportunity to get involved in a valuable and meaningful work experience.
“We are working tirelessly to give as many opportunities within our organisation as possible. This is often the first chance young people get at trialling a real life work situation and gives them a great boost not only to their CV but to their confidence.”
If you are an employer who could offer a local young person a work experience placement, you can register your details at www.stockport.gov.uk/peebs or telephone 0161 474 2350. Alternatively, email peebs@stockport.gov.uk.
