Stockport Council is asking residents to have their say on the next steps of regeneration in Brinnington, which includes plans to improve leisure facilities in the area.
As part of wider regeneration proposals – which also includes new family homes – new sports and leisure facilities would be located in Brinnington Park, replacing the existing Life Leisure Lapwing centre. This follows on from a borough-wide consultation on leisure facilities undertaken by the Council in 2011.
The proposed new centre could include facilities for badminton, five-a-side football, basketball, netball, volleyball, indoor hockey, a dance and aerobic studio and a fitness suite, as well as a community room for events, classes and meetings.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“We’re determined to improve facilities and housing for residents in Brinnington, and to do that we need input from local people. We’re putting forward proposals for a new, more centrally located sport and leisure centre and we want to know residents’ views.
“I’d encourage everyone to attend one of the drop-in events or fill in a questionnaire, so we can find out what’s important to local people.”
As part of the consultation, the Council will be hosting six drop-in events for people to have their say on the plans:
Wednesday 12 June, First House, 10.30am – 4pm
Monday 24 June, First House, 12pm – 4pm
Monday 24 June, Lapwing Centre, 5pm – 7pm
Saturday 13 July, Brinnington Park, 12pm – 4pm
Saturday 27 July, Brinnington Park, 11am – 4pm
Wednesday 31 July, First House, 12pm – 6pm
Electronic questionnaires will be available on ‘stand point kiosks’ in the Lapwing Centre and First House and online at www.stockport.gov.uk/haveyoursay
The consultation runs from the Monday 10 June to Friday 2 August.
The results of the consultation will be included in a report to the Council’s Executive and considered when agreeing final plans for the facilities.
