Over the last four years 324 community groups have been awarded funding through Stockport Council’s ‘You Say We Pay’ events.
The Council have organised 18 ‘You Say We Pay’ events, the first was held in March 2009. These events give residents the chance to decide how money should be spent in their area.
A total of £537,769 has been awarded to community groups through the events and over 2,760 people have voted to decide where the money goes.
At the most recent ‘You Say We Pay’ event, held in Brinnington in February, over 700 people cast their vote by using a new voting road show system.
Councillor Mark Weldon, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Supporting Communities, said: “‘You Say We Pay’ events provide a great opportunity for residents to support the funding of projects which really enhances and brings their community together. These events have proved hugely popular with residents with 714 people voting at the last Brinnington event alone.”
Of the 18 ‘You Say We Pay’ events held in Stockport four have been in Brinnington, five in Central Stockport, four in Adswood and Bridgehall and five in Offerton.
