The last remaining Comet stores are to close today, the failed firm’s administrators have confirmed.
Shops at the Manchester Fort and in Rochdale, Stockport and Wigan are among a final group of 49 branches which are shutting nationwide.
Comet, which had 236 stores and employed 6,600 staff, went into administration seven weeks ago.

Bolton-based white goods retailer Appliances Online is still waiting to hear whether its seven-figure bid for Comet’s website has been successful.Comet was hit by weak high street trading conditions, competition from online rivals and being unable to secure the trade credit insurance needed to safeguard suppliers.
In particular, it was knocked by the lack of first-time home-buyers, who had been key customers for Comet.
