Stockport College partners Debut Academy of Performing Arts have come first in the Anne Walker MBE Dance School of the Year Awards.
The award is the second for the Academy during the 2020/21 academic year, after clinching best Dance and Performing Arts School in the North, including the Midlands, at the prestigious National Entertainment Awards in the Autumn Term. Finalists for the Anne Walker MBE Awards represent schools teaching all genres from ballet to hip-hop and ballroom to contemporary.
Entries were received from across the UK and Europe as well as Canada, USA, Bahrain, Brunei and Australia, with the winners announced at a virtual awards ceremony that was streamed live on Friday 23rd October
Director of Debut Academy of Performing Arts Carolann Bruce said:
We are so proud of Debut, and our staff and students; all of whom have contributed to this amazing win. This recent accolade proves that all our hard work, and dedication to our students and the Arts, has paid off. Debut is the best Performing Arts School in the country and continues to train students to the highest of standards.”
The Dance School of the Year Awards is now in its eighth year and received more entries this year than ever before.
Former dance teacher Anne Walker MBE, who founded a number of dance businesses and is now a business mentor and author, said:
Dance teachers should be applauded and celebrated. They are so much more than just a teacher – they are almost a substitute parent to many of their students as they are role models, mentors and social workers, offering support, stability and a disciplined approach to life.
“Fellow dance teachers have supported me in my career over many years and now I hope, through these Awards, we can all celebrate the life-long passion for dance and the achievements of dance teachers everywhere.”
