Stockport Council and Pure Innovations are supporting the National Autistic Society and Greater Manchester Autism Consortium to help Stockport businesses recognise the untapped talent that people with autism can bring to the workplace.
A free breakfast seminar ‘Let’s talk autism in the workplace’ takes place at Cheadle House, Cheadle Royal
Business Park, on Friday 5th July 8am-10.30am.
Invitations have been sent to local employers, and the Consortium wants to hear from employers who may not have received one but would like to attend. To book a place contact mari.saeki@nas.org.uk For more information, call Mari on 0161 998 4667.
Through this and other breakfast seminars, Stockport Council, GM Autism Consortium and Pure Innovation show that by making straightforward, often affordable, adjustments businesses can significantly increase the pool of local talent available to fill their vacant positions.
The seminar aims to show businesses how they can make their environment more ‘autism friendly’ and the huge benefits this will bring them when recruiting new staff.
Councillor Keith Holloway, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Adult Care Services, said:
“I’m pleased that we are taking an active interest in helping people with employment in Stockport. People with autism can have exceptional talents which businesses often miss out on. Their reliability, specialist skills, resourcefulness, attention to detail, commitment, focus, technical ability and loyalty make them ideal candidates for a wide range of jobs.”
