Stockport businesses go quizzing for Kits by County

More than 180 of Stockport’s finest business quizzers put their knowledge to the test as they battled it out for honours at the inaugural Gorvins’ Quiz Night, hosted by Stockport County Community Trust in partnership with Marketing Stockport.

Under the watchful eye of compere Richard Higginson, Gorvins’ Senior Partner and Head of Corporate, Andy Curwen, got proceedings underway with a lively round of bingo before the evening moved on to the serious business of quizzing.

Thirty-seven teams went head-to-head, digging deep for answers across four challenging rounds covering sport, general knowledge and music. Just when teams thought they had got the measure of the competition, a surprise darts bonus round was thrown into the mix, proving to be a stumbling block for more than a few previously confident would-be victors!

But the real winner on the night was Stockport County Community Trust’s Kits by County project, with the generosity of everyone taking part helping to raise an impressive £5,500. The initiative provides PE kits for children across Stockport who might otherwise go without, helping ensure that cost is not a barrier to taking part in sport and school activities.

Meanwhile, there was still the small matter of the trophy to settle. Keeping their cool when it mattered most, Marchington Stone Ltd (pictured below) emerged victorious, taking home the inaugural Gorvins’ Quiz Night trophy and, importantly, leaving with their credibility firmly intact!

With just 19 points dividing them, the top 10 teams were:

• Marchington Stone Ltd
• Sedulo PH Property Holdings
• Hays
• Gorvins A
• C&C Employee Benefits
• Clarke Nicklin Financial Planning
• Azets
• Computeam
• Dean’s Court Chambers
• Fairhurst Buckley A

A huge thanks to Steve Bellis, President of Stockport County, Gorvins Solicitors, and to Strawberry Radio for supporting the night, and to everyone who came along to take part and made the evening a great success.
