Small and medium-sized business owners in Stockport are being encouraged to sign up to free management training from Manchester Metropolitan University’s Business School as part of the government’s Help to Grow scheme.
The Help to Grow: Management programme combines a practical curriculum with 1:1 support from a business mentor, peer-learning sessions and an alumni network. Launched as part of the Plan for Jobs, It helps business leaders develop their strategic skills, create jobs and boost their business performance. Over 12 weeks, participants will explore topics spanning leadership, innovation, digital adoption, employee engagement, marketing, responsible business, and financial management.
Designed to be manageable alongside full-time work, by the end of the programme, business leaders will develop a tailored growth plan to help lead their business to its full potential. As well as at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Business School, other business schools and universities across the country are also partnering with the Help to Grow scheme to offer training and support to 30,000 SMEs across the UK.
Speaking at a Help to Grow course at Brunel University, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said:
UK businesses are global leaders in creativity and innovation, and Government is here to support SMEs to seize every opportunity to grow.
“Help to Grow: Management is a fantastic scheme to equip ambitious business leaders with the tools to take their business to the next level, helping create an even more high-productivity, high-wage economy we build back better from the pandemic.”
Chartered Association of Business Schools CEO Anne Kiem OBE added:
As we continue to grapple with the coronavirus crisis it is also essential we look long term to ensure small businesses are supported to build resilience, survival and growth.
Business schools can provide the expertise and knowledge all business owners and directors need to continue to thrive in uncertain times.
Manchester Metropolitan University will begin running its first 12-week programme from Wednesday 8 September 2021.
