The Red Lion pub in Cheshire village, Little Budworth, has reopened following a 4-week refurbishment from Stockport-based Robinsons Brewery. The licensees and 181-year-old family brewers invested over £150,000 in the Cheshire village pub.
The refurbishment is part of an ongoing investment by Robinsons Brewery in their pubs across the North West and North Wales.
Alan Duckworth and Carol Knott, Licensees at the Red Lion, said:
The pub is a traditional village inn and with the help and support from Robinsons, we have worked together to lovingly carry out the refurbishment of the bar, restaurant and kitchen. We have been careful to maintain the pubs quaint and traditional atmosphere but with a slightly modern twist while at the same time holding on to the building’s incredible past. In the first week we saw customers old and new all of whom love the new look and agree that it still feels like the traditional country inn that it always has been.”
Located close to Oulton park, The Red Lion is a key part of the village but had become tired over the years. A nod was given to the race circuit, with some old black and white photos sourced from the racing scene and placed throughout the trading areas, creating a talking point amongst many of the customers.
Internally, the theme was in-keeping with a traditional country pub, with existing charm and character enhanced. The new oak bar has been constructed in its original location and areas of the surrounding walls were removed to give direct vision of the bar; which is now a great focal point upon entering the pub. The existing open fireplace was refurbished and a new surround and hearth added, with rustic cladding inserted to the encircling walls, alongside cosy seating. Various patterned fabrics were used on both window dressings, lampshades and furniture, in keeping with the pub’s colour scheme of pastel greens and cream.
The Red Lion now boasts a new log burning stove, added to the existing fire opening to the side snug room, radiating warmth and comfort for the coming winter months. Natural wood flooring now runs throughout the pub, with feature diamond timber flooring around the bar. Internal walls were removed, and additional access doorways added to improve customer flow.
Trevor Strickley, Business Development Manager at Robinsons Brewery, said:
The Red Lion pub has always been a great attraction in Little Budworth, and it was in need of a substantial investment to bring it back to life. The whole area, internal and external, has been freshened up, and is a pub for all types of customers to visit for some lovely pub food or a few drinks.”
A brand-new food menu has also been added to The Red Lion. Externally, an attractive new signage and lighting scheme was added, making the pub stand out to all passing through the Cheshire village.
