Join some fantastic groups across Stockport who are already signed up to the national Great Plastic Pick Up on 11th – 13th May 2018 and help turn the tide on plastic.
Help us get rid of the plastic that litters our best loved green-spaces, streets and rivers by organising a litter pick in your community to collect plastic bottles, aluminium cans and general waste. Visit www.greatplasticpickup.org
Plastic bottles and aluminium cans need to be disposed in your brown bin or at your local tip and recycling centre. Please remember that plastic bags are not recycled in Greater Manchester, so you’ll need to empty the plastic bags and dispose the collected waste in the correct recycling tip.
You can contact Stockport Council’s Public Realm Team at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on how to organise a litter pick in your community.
Make sure to share photos of your day litter-picking by emailing your photos to email@example.com or by using the hashtag #WeLoveStockport on social media.
Mark Glynn, Strategic Head of Place Management at Stockport Council, said:
“The impact of plastic waste has been well covered in the news lately and it shows how harmful it can be to the environment. I’d encourage residents to get together and help us remove the plastic that poisons our streets, parks and public areas. Let’s also make sure that we’re recycling and disposing the waste correctly on residential bins and the borough’s tips and recycling centres.”
The Great Plastic Pick Up is one of the many efforts of the Council’s ‘We Love Stockport – Be Proud of Where You Live’ environmental campaign, which is aimed at addressing issues such as fly-tipping, dog fouling and keeping our parks and streets clean.
