Stockport based APEM, has acquired Galway based marine environmental consultancy, AQUAFACT, the firm’s second acquisition of an Irish business in less than 12 months.
In July 2021, the environmental consultancy acquired sustainability specialists Woodrow, also based in Ireland. AQUAFACT are specialists in marine surveys, and the takeover reinforces APEM’s strong performance since investors, WestBridge, supported a management buyout in March 2019.
APEM CEO, Dr Adrian Williams (pictured), said:
“There has never been a more exciting time to work in environmental consultancy. Bringing AQUAFACT into the APEM Group enables us to provide a wider range of services to more clients. It also gives us a stronger foothold in Ireland where there is a burgeoning offshore wind market.
“As ever, we are grateful for the unwavering support provided by the team at WestBridge. This is another positive step as we pursue our ambitious growth strategy.”
Peter Barkley, director at WestBridge, said:
“APEM has performed extremely well since our investment. Strong organic growth has created a solid platform to support such acquisitions, which are central to our strategy.
“AQUAFACT has an excellent reputation and the services it provides are a perfect augmentation of the rapidly growing APEM Group. It goes without saying, we are delighted to have supported this latest transaction.”
Trading as AQUAFACT part of the APEM Group, the team will further enhance the Groups current marine and laboratory offering, allowing the provision of a wider range of surveys to clients in Ireland, and beyond.
AQUAFACT founder, Brendan O’Connor added:
“We in AQUAFACT have known of APEM for many years and have been impressed with the quality of their work. In the past we have attended a number of marine invertebrate identification courses with various members of the APEM team, so we are looking forward to building on and developing those relationships as we come together.”
The APEM Group is a collection of boutique environmental consultancies employing over 300 staff across the UK, Ireland and USA.
