Harrow Estates, part of Redrow Group, has launched a second consultation on its plans for an extension of the Woodford Garden Village development.
Following initial public consultation in the Summer, plans have been updated with further design work for the mixed-use scheme that includes new homes, a community hub and significant green open spaces.
The proposals are for a sustainable mix of around 500 new homes with a significant portion of affordable homes, family housing, senior living, and self-build plots to meet the Borough’s housing need.
Local heritage will be supported by a new mixed-use community hub adjacent to the Avro Heritage Museum, which would include a community building with events space and wider flexible community spaces. Harrow Estates have taken on initial feedback and look forward to confirming key priorities for this space which can be a focal point for the community.
As part of the second phase of consultation on the scheme, local residents are invited to attend a series of public drop-in exhibitions on Thursday 12th September (5-7pm) and Friday 13th September (4.30-7pm) at Woodford War Memorial Community Centre. The public consultation website will also be updated with new plans on Thursday 12th September.
Tim Noden, Planning Director at Harrow Estates, said:
“We were greatly appreciative of the views of local residents and stakeholders at our public consultation in the Summer. We have now updated our draft proposals in response to feedback received.
“We look forward to speaking with people again as further details are developed around these proposals for a range of new homes, a mixed-use community hub, and a significant amount of green open spaces for all residents to enjoy”.
Woodford Garden Village secured planning consent in 2015, and since then, over 600 homes have been built on the site of the former Woodford Aerodrome. The Aviator pub restaurant and primary school are now open. Planning permission was granted for a local centre in 2023 and planning conditions are now being discharged ahead of works commencing.
Harrow Estates is working towards a submission for planning for the new development later this year.
