Stockport Council and Greater Manchester Police have been cracking down on illegal taxis, and carried out 2 days of enforcement as part of the borough’s Safer Stockport Partnership (SSP) and this year’s Christmas Safety campaign.
Officers carried out spot checks on Private Hire and Hackney Carriage vehicles operating in Stockport.
Of the vehicles stopped as part of the operation:
- Four vehicles were immediately suspended
- Three vehicles were issued with condition notices
- Verbal advice was given to seven drivers for issues ranging from tyre tread near the limit to failure to conform to traffic lights
Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Sustainability:
“This was a very successful joint operation clamping down on unlicensed drivers and taxis to ensure the public’s safety. The vast majority of taxi drivers in Stockport are fully compliant with all the appropriate licences. But this successful joint operation targeted unlicensed drivers and taxis to try to ensure the public’s safety.”
