Stockport based Rowlinson Knitwear has been announced as winner of the Employee Owned “Rising Star of the Year” award at the UK Employee Ownership Awards.
Sponsored by Baxendale and held on 27 November 2017 at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, Birmingham, the company’s Head of People Services, Nicola Ryan, also received a Highly Commended accolade in the “Employee Owner of the Year” category, in recognition for her outstanding contribution to Rowlinson and its values-led culture.
The awards celebrate the significant contribution employee owned (EO) businesses make to the UK economy and the “Rising Star of the Year” award celebrates a business that is already becoming an effective company with a strong culture of employee ownership and commitment to engaging its workforce.
Donald Moore, Rowlinson’s Managing Director, comments,
“We’re delighted to be recognised as the EO Rising Star of the Year. It’s testament to the continued passion, commitment and hard work of all our people, who have embraced employee ownership wholeheartedly. This award acknowledges and reinforces our philosophy that achieving high levels of employee engagement in a purposeful and ethical enterprise go hand in hand with business growth and sustainable commercial success.”
Baxendale Managing Director, Campbell McDonald, said:
“Now more than ever our economy needs businesses that are outstanding in every way. Employee owned businesses innovate and outperform the competition by putting people at the heart of their approach. Employee ownership can transform not just the bottom line, but also workforce culture, corporate behaviour and community impact. As public trust in boardroom ethics drops ever lower, the country is crying out for more businesses that create a wider positive impact in our economy and society.”
Deb Oxley, CEO of the Employee Ownership Association, said,
“Congratulations to Rowlinson on winning this award. The awards recognise the productivity, innovation and excellence driven by teams and individuals in employee owned businesses, which demonstrate how employees having a stake in the business teamed with a robust culture of transparency and employee engagement result in outstanding performance in growth and resilience.”
Established in 1935 and an employee-owned company since 2015, Rowlinson Knitwear manufactures high quality specialist knitwear products for the schoolwear and corporate markets.
The Employee Ownership Association (EOA) represents organisations which are employee owned or transitioning to employee ownership across the UK. The EOA is a not for profit and politically independent organisation and its core purpose is to grow employee ownership in the UK.
