Last Sunday marked the start of the country’s biggest bowls competition, taking place at Robinsons Navigation and Railway pubs in Woodley where last year the 5 week tournament saw hundreds flock throughout June and July to see 128 bowlers from around the country compete to take home a total combined prize of £5000.
John Mclean, Multiple Licensee of The Railway and The Navigation pubs, promises that the 2015 edition will be bigger and better than ever:
“Following last year’s event, we had huge interest from competitive bowlers around the country. Almost as soon as the final result was announced the brackets for the 2015 edition were full with 68 bowlers on the reserve list just in case of a drop out!”
The competition, which will run until July 12th, will once again see bowlers compete to take home the prize of £5000 and the accolade of champion; currently held by winner Gary Ellis who will be returning to defend this year.
Tony Massey, Business Development Manager for Robinsons Brewery said:
“Last year’s event was a spectacle and this year we’re all excited to see if a new champion will be crowned or if the returning champ will triumph again! John, Michelle and the event organiser Dave Mee, have worked extremely hard to make sure the event goes without a hitch.”
The grand final will take place on Sunday 12th July with Robinsons’ award-winning shire horses in attendance.
The Railway pub and the Navigation Hotel are both located on Hyde Road, Woodley, and are open daily serving award-winning Robinsons cask ales and a rotating range of guest beers. For more information on the competition please contact the pubs on 0161 430 7416
