Businesses who promote a healthy and safe workplace get rewarded with loyalty, happiness and peace of mind, according to Health & Safety specialist Michelle Hay.
Last week Michelle, founder of Michelle Hay Training, presented certificates to over 100 employees at a Manchester based company who had successfully completed H&S training. During the past three months Michelle has worked closely with the client to implement a full health and safety management system that complies with their legal requirements.
The work that Michelle has done also means that the company can now apply for compliance awards for their industry sector that will raise their profile further and, lead to increased business, turnover and reduce staff turnover at the same time.
At the initial meeting with the client, Michelle established that very little in terms of ‘health and safety’ was in place. A blank sheet of paper was her starting point. Over the next three months Michelle systematically addressed and put into place all that is required for the company to meet their legal obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Amongst one of the many issues that Michelle identified was training for over 120 employees in fire safety and display screen equipment (DSE); manual handling was also urgently needed.
The company is based in one of the most iconic buildings in Manchester. The risk of them being responsible for a fire was not an option. As the company was in a shared occupancy building, including other businesses and residential flats, one thing that was clear was that no-one had considered, planned or carried out an evacuation and subsequently could come unstuck in a live situation.
