Supermarket chain, Co-op, has submitted a planning application to demolish and rebuild its Great Moor store on Buxton Road in Stockport.
If approved, plans will see the existing store demolished, along with the neighbouring Yu & Me hardware store, and a new, larger convenience store built in its place on the site between Store Street and Cherry Tree Lane. The site will also include 13 parking spaces to the rear, ATM on Buxton Road, and EV charging facilities alongside the two-storey building.
The new Co-op store will have retail floorspace of 243 sqm – a 46 sqm increase on the current convenience store, but a significant reduction in the total shop floor space currently on the site given the closure of the neighbouring hardware store.
Alongside the rebuild, Co-op are also seeking for the new store to have extended opening hours compared to the existing shop, and will operate from 06:00-23:00, 7 days a week.
Proposals put forward by the Co-op for the Buxton Road echo a previous planning submission for redeveloping the store where, while approved by Stockport Council, work did not begin resulting in the permission lapsing.
AEW are the architects on plans for the store, with planning consultants Stantec preparing the application on behalf on the Co-op.
