Production is expected to increase at Buxton Brewery following a move to larger premises to meet increased production demands following an expansion financed by six figure funding package from The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
The company, which currently produces over 20 different beers including labels such as Tsar, Buxton Spa, Rednik Stout and Moor Top, recently moved to brand new purpose designed premises on Staden Lane Business Park in Buxton. Works to fully equip and fit out the 32 hectolitre plant have just completed and will now enable the brewery to increase production capacity to 150 hectolitres a week.
Funded with a six figure loan from RBS, the move to larger premises comes as a result of increased demand for the company’s products in both the UK and foreign export markets which include Europe and South and North America.
RBS has provided a fee free loan for the new brewery under the Government backed Funding for Lending Scheme (FLS). Specifically designed to offer more support to SME’s by making borrowing more affordable, under the scheme businesses can take advantage of loans with lower interest rates and no arrangement fees.
The loan has also contributed to the opening of Buxton Brewery Tap House which opened its doors in the town last year.
In addition to the loan funding, Lombard, the bank’s asset finance arm has also provided Buxton Brewery with a six figure funding facility to facilitate the purchase and installation of a range of new equipment for the brewery which includes brewing vessels, bottling and labelling plants. The enhanced facilities will also aid the company in its bid to increase output and further improve efficiency.
Geoff Quinn, Managing Director of Buxton Brewery Company Limited:
“I set up Buxton Brewery five years ago and am so pleased with the success we have achieved in that time. Our beers are very popular and our range has expanded to consist of 20 distinct and regular beers as well as a selection of one off special reserve series and collaborations. We currently export to over 20 countries worldwide and I’m proud to say have been included in the top 100 breweries in the world list.
“We have developed a real following over the years and demand for our beers is on the up. In the year ending 2013 our turnover was approximately £450k – a figure that is expected to triple going forward.
“Growth has always been an important objective and we have reached a critical time in the businesses development. With sales growing rapidly we really need to move to much larger premises so that we can increase output to meet demand. We currently produce between 60 and 80 barrels but need a facility geared up to enable production of up to 100 barrels a week. Thanks to the funding we have received from RBS this has become possible and we are now able to increase production and continue to pursue our growth objectives.
“We moved to RBS over a year and a half ago and I haven’t looked back since. The loan funding has been excellent and without it we would have struggled to make the move to larger premises. Grant and his team are very approachable and fully understand our industry and objectives for the business, we have developed a great working relationship together.”
Grant Mitchell, Business Relationship Manager at The Royal Bank of Scotland said:
“Buxton Brewery is a very popular local business and as its success indicates, has become a real success worldwide.
“I am pleased that we have been able to work with the company and to support them in their growth. The new premises are excellent and thanks to the additional Lombard funding are kitted out with the best equipment possible to enable production to increase. We wish the brewery every success in the coming months and look forward to continuing a successful working relationship with the company.”
