A publican duo from Stockport based Robinsons Brewery’s the Queens Head, Troutbeck, have embarked on a mission to climb 10 of Cumbria’s iconic fells to help raise money for Help For Heroes.
Samantha Robinson and her husband Mark, who have ran the popular Queens Head pub close to Windermere since it’s reopening last year, have already tackled Helvellyn, the third highest fell in the Lakes, and Nethermost, and have now set their sights on 8 more popular fells.
Sam Robinson, General Manager of the Queens Head, said:
We are proud to be part of Cumbria and the Lake District and we wanted to help raise some money and awareness for a great charity. Our 10 guest bedrooms at the pub, which were named by our regulars, are christened after each of the fells that we intend to climb so we felt that it was a very fitting tribute and a great challenge.”
Founded in 2007, Help for Heroes is a charity which provides lifelong support to Service Personnel and Military Veterans with injuries, illnesses and wounds sustained whilst serving the British Armed Forces.
Robinsons Brewery and Iron Maiden teamed up with Help For Heroes at the start of the year to launch Light Brigade, a 4.1% ABV Golden Beer, which donates 5p for every bottle bought to the charity. The beer is available in both bottle and cask and has been a popular choice at the duo’s pub. Robinsons hope to raise £125,000 over the 2 year partnership with Help for Heroes.
Mark Robinson said:
The beer has been a favourite with our regulars since its launch, and the message really is wonderful, so we wanted to help raise additional funds to a very worthy cause. It’s going to be a very tiring and gruelling couple of months, but nothing compared to the challenges some of our Veterans face. We hope that we can make a difference and raise some much-needed funds for a great cause!”
Closing, Sam said:
We’ve estimated that the total we will be climbing around 30,000 feet once it’s all said and done! Safe to say, we are praying for some good weather.”
