Eamar Developments, owner of the Stockport Pyramid, is set to have plans for a residential scheme in Stockport town centre approved by the council.
The 22,000 sq ft scheme comprises 90 one- and two-bedroom apartments and eight three-bedroom duplex townhouses, on the site of a car park between Piccadilly and Fletcher Street. The 18-storey building, if approved, would become the tallest building in Stockport. 7,500 sq ft of ground floor retail units are also planned for the scheme.
Stockport Council’s planning committee have been advised to approve the scheme by planning officers on the grounds that the development would make a significant contribution to helping the borough meet overall housing needs. The town centre location will also support repurposing of brownfield sites for residential development.
The scheme has been designed by Manchester architects, Stephenson Studio, with the brick structure and central stair-column reflecting the chimneys and sawtooth roofs of warehouses and mills elsewhere in the town. Public realm improvements on Piccadilly are being lead by Re-Form.
The apartment building would be Eamar Development’s first new-build scheme in Stockport town centre. The Saudi-based investor purchased the Stockport Pyramid in 2019 to refurbish the local landmark and lease to commercial tenants.
Stockport Council’s planning will meet on Thursday 17th December to discuss the scheme.
