On Monday the 15th October, our Platform 81 directors Alec, Nick, and Gary are going to be giving up their beds for one night to help those who don’t have one.
Earlier in the year, we announced that we would be raising £10,000 for charity to celebrate our tenth year of business. The next step on this mission is the announcement that we are going to be joining the fight against homelessness and poverty across Manchester.
With figures released earlier in the year revealing that rough sleeping in Manchester had rocketed 13-fold since 2010 and the number of people on the brink of homelessness – including those needing temporary accommodation – had also shot up, we decided to take part in the Manchester CEO Sleepout and pledge to raise £1,000 each. Last year’s business sleepout raised a massive £64,500 and we wanted to take part to help make 2018 an even more successful year!
While rough sleeping has risen across England, the government’s breakdown shows Greater Manchester’s problem is increasing at a much faster rate than most other areas. Therefore, on Monday the 15thOctober Alec, Nick, and Gary will be bedding down with CEO’s and senior level executives from around Manchester to brave the elements and sleep outside to raise awareness of the funds needed to help tackle the problems the city faces.
So, what is CEO Sleepout?
CEO Sleepout is a charity set up to fight homelessness and poverty. They encourage big hearted business people to swap their suits for sleeping bags for one night to help others by raising awareness and sponsorship from their business contacts and friends. They put that money back into fighting homelessness and poverty in each of their host cities. So far more than 1,900 executives have raised a staggering £1,954,000 to fight poverty and homelessness.
Where does the money go?
Although they’re a national charity, CEO Sleepout love all things local too. They are community driven and are committed to supporting local charities in all of their host cities, as well as charities that work hard to combat poverty and homelessness the length and breadth of the UK.
They make sure that the majority of money raised is distributed to local charities to fight homelessness and poverty within a few miles of each CEO Sleepout, as well as those charities that work nationally.
“Homelessness is a huge issue nationally, but awareness is particularly high here in Greater Manchester. As a business with strong local roots, we feel a strong sense of obligation to participate in this fantastic event that represents such a great cause” – Platform 81 Director, Alec Middleton
