Hallidays client, Paper Salad, has been highly commended at the EN Awards for the EN North West ‘Most Entrepreneurial Company of the Year’.
Paper Salad, the creation of two freelance designers Karen Wilson and Claire Williams, design and publish contemporary greeting cards, gift wrap and stationary in their own unique style. Their clients include Waterstones, Paperchase, Funky Pigeon and Waitrose and most recently they have signed new deals with John Lewis, The Co-op and Mothercare.
Naturally ambitious, the duo have successful licensing deals for a range of products from children’s clothes and gifts distributed worldwide, recently gaining new oversees distributers and translating their bright and quirky designs into French and German.
Karen and Claire studied together as surface pattern textile designers at college and started out as two separate businesses, working on a freelance basis sharing a small studio space. 11 years later they have moved into new offices and created their own unique brand which is instantly recognisable on the high street.
Karen and Claire said: “We are thrilled to be highly commended for the most entrepreneurial company of 2016!
“To be able to take a small creative company in a niche market, build it up to the well-known high street brand it is today and be recognised for it, is elating. To receive this award from such an esteemed panel of judges is not only an honour but also a confirmation of all the hard work the Paper Salad team has put in over the years. We hope to inspire other creative people to follow their dreams and use their passion for art and design to create a successful business!”
The UK leads the world in the greeting card market. Being at the forefront of design, the UK market is worth £1.6 billion at retail each year, with one in six UK retailers stocking greeting cards and a large export market.
Paper Salad use local specialist printers suppliers, as opposed to having a mass production facility China, and print on sustainable FSC accredited paper from renewable sources. All their cards are individually cello wrapped, hand finished and packed to ensure the highest standards.
Hallidays Director, Valerie Wain said: “We nominated Paper Salad for this award to celebrate their achievement and are delighted they have been highly commended!
“Hallidays have had the pleasure of supporting Karen and Claire for 6 years, advising them on how to grow their business and build their team using behavioural profiling to create a happy and successful working environment.
“Using Hallidays Business One Page Plan, they are focusing on what matters most for driving their business forward. They are a shining example of what can be achieved with a fantastic product range, a dedicated team and a lot of hard work.”
As designers, they had very little business experience and had to learn every aspect of running a business through trial and error. As they started to have success they received professional business and HR advice from Hallidays to support them to grow. This enabled them to reduce the time they spend running the business and focus on what they do best, designing their products.
